LEGISLATIVE UPDATES

Reauthorization of the Developmental Disabilities Act The last update on the Reauthorization of the DD Act reported that the Senate and House both passed identical versions of the DD Act, but the bill was held up in resolution because there were two different numbers. NPND is happy to report that both the Senate bill (S. 1809) and the Senate Concurrent Resolution (S.Con.Res.133) both passed the House without objection. So, the next step is the President's signature. Parents, families, and disability advocates worked together to get this legislation passed. Thank you for your tireless efforts; it paid off! Access the Administration on Developmental Disabilities home page: www.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/add/ to learn more about the DD Act and the programs it funds.

Family Opportunity Act (S. 2274 and H.R. 4825)

There is still time to make the Family Opportunity Act a reality! Act before October 20th!!!

We have a chance to get the Family Opportunity Act passed before this session of Congress ends on October 20th. But, we all need to work together to make sure this happens. This legislation is important to families of children with disabilities, and it should be a top legislative priority. Let's see it passed!!!!!!

ACTION NEEDED

Continue to contact key members of Congress and the White House. Continue to share your stories. Continue to let them know that families do need this legislation.

MESSAGE

Ask them to show their support for families with children with disabilities by bringing the FOA to the floor for consideration before Congress adjourns. Our children depend upon it.

"LET OUR FAMILIES WORK AND RAISE THEIR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES IN THEIR HOMES AND IN THEIR COMMUNITIES."
