- Daily, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.: National Museum of American History- Exhibit on the History of the Disability Rights Movement. NOTE: Visitors are encouraged to visit on July 24 and 26 to provide input on the use of accessible kiosks used in the exhibit. Location: 14th St. & Constitution Ave. NW
Wednesday, July 19:
- 2:30 p.m.: Press Conference to announce the findings of the 2000 National Organization on Disability/Louis Harris Survey of Americans with Disabilities. The 2000 survey highlights the differences in all aspects of life between the nation's 54 million people with disabilities and other Americans. Speakers include the Honorable Max Cleland, GA- Location: 562 Dirksen Senate Office Building
Thursday, July 20:
- 1p.m.-2:15 p.m.: Briefing on the Americans with Disabilities Act with Sen. Jeffords, Sen. Harkin, Rep. Hoyer and other members of Congress. Keynote Speaker is former US Attorney General Richard Thornburgh. . For Congressional Staff Only. Location: Mansfield Room, US Capitol
Friday, July 21:
- 9:30 a.m.: The Federal Communications Commission will hold an Open Meeting on several topics of interest to people with disabilities, including: nationwide implementation of 711 access to telecommunications relay services (TRS); reconsideration concerning petitions for assignment of N11 codes for access to community information and referral services, and for access to traveler information services; requiring certain broadcast stations and multichannel video programming distributors to provide programming with video description; technical standards for the display of closed captions on digital elevision (DTV) receivers. - 11a.m. to 4 p.m. Department of Transportation Celebration of 10th Anniversary of the ADA. All day exposition and 1:00 p.m. ceremony with Secretary Slater. Location: DOT Headquarters- 400 7th St. SW
Monday, July 24:
- 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Reception for Congressional staff, sponsored by VW of America and planned by Burson Marsteller/BKSH. Goal is to educate Congressional staff, particularly those with ADA/civil rights/ IDEA/ education/ employment/transportation responsibilities, regarding the events of July 25 and 26 in the DC area, the broader torch relay and its purpose, and the significance of the ADA and IDEA anniversaries. Tuesday, July 25
- 9:00 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Press conference at Endependence Center of Northern Virginia in Arlington emphasizing theme of "universal design," followed by tour of Center for anyone interested and kickoff of torch relay from the Center to the Lincoln Memorial. Location: 3100 Clarendon Blvd. Arlington, VA
- 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Honoring the Heroes. Official DC event welcoming the torch and the youth with the theme, "Honoring the Heroes, Celebrating the Future" tribute to those whose work secured the passage of the ADA and to the youth leaders who will continue to advocate for implementation of the ADA. Organized by the Presidential Task Force on Employment of Adults with Disabilities and the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD). Tony Coelho, Vice- Chairman of the Task Force and Chairman of the President's Committee on the Employment of People with Disabilities, will serve as emcee. Torch arrives at 11:40. - 9:30 a.m. : Torch Relay through Arlington
- 10:45 a.m. - 11 a.m.: Torch Relay crosses Memorial Bridge with children and youth from Va. bringing torch across bridge to Lincoln Memorial with relay caravan meeting up with children and youth from DC and MD.
- 11 a.m. Torch Relay leaves Lincoln Memorial with approx. 100 relay participants
- 11:20 a.m. Torch Relay arrives at FDR Memorial
- 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.: National Council on Disability Luncheon honoring the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights with first ever Justin Dart Award for the roll they played in supporting ADA's passage. Torch will arrive at luncheon at 1:30 p.m. By Invitation Only. Location: Marriott Metro Center
- 2:00 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Gallaudet University ADA Celebration & Family Cookout. Gallaudet will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the ADA with live outdoor performances from mixed ability performers and a free family cook-out dinner. We will also welcome the Spirit of the ADA Relay torch to our campus during the festivities and hear from our ADA heroes, including I.King Jordan, the first deaf president of a university. Torch will arrive at 2:45 p.m. Location: Gallaudet University, 800 Florida Avenue, NE- Olmsted Green
- 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Opening plenary session at the annual conference of the National Council on Independent Living with Senator Harkin, Justin Dart, Clay Haughton and other exciting speakers passing the torch. NOTE: NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED TO THE GRAND BALLROOM AFTER 4:45 PM. LIMITED SEATING-FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED. Location: Grand Ballroom, Renaissance

- 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.: Vice President Gore's Technology Expo and Bar-B-Q in Celebration of the 10th anniversary of the ADA. By Invitation Only. Location: Vice President's Residence.
- 9:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.: Candlelight celebration with torch lighting ceremony and music. Hosted by young adult emerging leaders with disabilities. Location: Courtyard adjacent to the Renaissance Hotel at 9th and H Streets, NW
Wednesday, July 26: HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADA!
- 9 a.m.: 10th Anniversary Celebration-. Speakers and Location TBA.
- 10:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.: Annual NCIL March, with the torch and 2000-3000 participants. Location: TBA
- 12:45 p.m.-1:30 p.m.: Annual NCIL Rally with 2000-3000 participants joined by members of Congress. Location: West face of the US Capitol Building
- 2 p.m.: Congressional Hearing- Sen. Jeffords- 10 Years of ADA- Emphasis on Employment - Location: Hart Senate Office Building Room 216
- 8 p.m. - 12 a.m. Gala fundraiser for AAPD, NCIL and DREDF with live and silent auctions, dancing and food (black tie optional). Tickets: 202/833-4456 Location: Union Station

- 9 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. The Access Board and the ADA: The Next Years (free public forum) Under the ADA, the Board develops and maintains accessibility guidelines for new and altered facilities and transit vehicles. It also provides technical assistance and training on these guidelines and other aspects of accessible design. The Board plans to use the public forum to initiate an active dialogue on topics and areas that it should address under the ADA, including recommendations for future research. This information will be helpful in setting a long-term agenda. The Board also will invite any other recommendations related to its ADA mission, which includes not only writing and updating guidelines, but providing technical assistance and training on them as well. All are welcome to the forum, which will be free and open to the public. Location: Renaissance Hotel- 999 9th St. NW

Featured performers will include Actress and Singer Anita Hollander performing songs from her original one-woman musical Still Standing, and award winning pianist Tony DeBlois, who thrills audiences with his passion and musical diversity. -No Tickets Required.
